We are Alistair (dad), Victoria (mum), Toby (6), Tilly (4) and Edie (6 months) and we now own Barbara the Beetle. Bought off ebay just before Christmas as a bit of a present for Vic.
We live just outside of Bath and found Barbara no more than 5 miles away. 1970 1300, 2 owners, 66k miles from new with MOT certs, original invoice, and Bath registered from new etc. Just the thing Vic wanted. I'd been Sprites and Midgets
in the past but with T, T & E now around 2 seaters were a thing of the past.
Vowed never to buy a beige car, a Beetle or any car in the dark - broke all 3 rules
when Barbara and I met and I was invited to look inside - the smell of a 1970 car took me back to a young lad and my grampy's Ford Anglia and I knew that I'd be bidding to win later that night!
She's called Barbara after my mum's aunt who died in the autumn. She left us all some money and with some of it we bought....... Barbara.
We don't have any plans to narrow beams or make Barbara Californian or like a rat. We're into originality and having lost a small fortune
on the last Sprite that we fully restored we're keeping things simple this time. Might need a new rear wing and a bit of TLC on the leading edges of the other wings, and some rear seatbelts so we can fit booster seats across the back, and we're looking for some original speakers - having bought an Emden on ebay for £175 - but that'll be it.
